Der grosse Favorit ist ins Turnier gestartet und prompt gestrauchelt. In einem ansehnlichen Spiel hatte die Schweiz das bessere Ende für sich. Spanien versuchte alles, hatte einen Lattenknaller aber es fehlte das Glück. Allerdings hatte auch die Schweiz noch einen Pfostenschuss. Mit der gezeigten Leistung sollte Spanien aber trotzdem keine Probleme haben das Achtelfinale zu erreichen, auch wenn Chile eine starke Leistung bot. Die Schweiz hat schon einen grossen Schritt dahin getan.
Auch der zweimalige Weltmeister Uruguay machte einen grossen Schritt dorthin durch den Sieg über Südafrika. Der Gastgeber liess in 90 Minuten nichts erkennen was daran glauben lässt, dass sie einen nicht überzeugenden Vizeweltmeister schlagen könnten. Da hilft auch alles Tröten nicht, im Gegenteil ein paar Anfeuerungsrufe und Fangesänge wären gestern angebracht gewesen. Vielleicht haben die Dauertröter bald ein einsehen.
