Mit einem blutleeren und schwachen Auftritt hat sich Frankreich beinahe aus dem Turnier katapultiert. Die einzige Hoffnung des Vizeweltmeisters ist das Mexiko Argentinien aus dem Weg gehen will und daher auf Sieg spielen könnte. Da würde dann ein zwei oder drei Tore Sieg gegen Südafrika reichen um das Achtelfinale zu erreichen. Was sie da sollen oder wollen ist eine andere Frage.
Argentinien zaubert und wirbelt Südkorea durcheinander und präsentiert sich auch weiter als Titelkandidat. Das sie noch nicht sicher im Achtelfinale sind verdanken sie zwei Blackouts von Nigeria. Zuerst die Tätlichkeit von Kaita und dann der Patzer von Enyeama Nigerias besten. Griechenland ist überraschend noch im Rennen, auch weil Obasi kläglich vor dem leeren Tor vergab. Der Kampf um Platz zwei hinter Argenitnien wird spannend.
